Man hacks film producer’s comp, arrested

The DN Nagar police arrested a 29-year-old youth for allegedly hacking the website of Bollywood film producer Gaurang Doshi, and stealing data from the server to damage the reputation of the company. The police tracked the accused by tracing the Internet Protocol address.

According to police, a website belonging to Gaurang Doshi Productions Private Limited, was allegedly hacked on December 15 after which Anand Bansal, 31, administrator of the company approached the DN Nagar police to file a complaint. Doshi has produced ‘Aankhen’, ‘Deewar ‘ Let’s Bring Our Heroes Home’ and ‘Sandstrom’ among others in the past. 

In a statement to the police, it has been alleged that an unidentified person hacked the website server and managed to get access to the e-mails and the bank account details of the film producer.

The police on Monday at 10 pm arrested Bhavik Shah, a website designer under sections 420(cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and under section 66 (Hacking with the computer system) of the Information Technology Act.

“The server had various details of the actor and its transactions with the different companies. We are probing if the accused used the information to share it with the rival companies for personal benefits. The accused was traced through the IP address used to hack into the servers of the website used by the film producer.”, said a DN Nagar police officer.

“The accused has been remanded into police custody for one day and we have sent the seized electronic equipments to the Kalina Forensic and Science Laboratory for analysis,” said Parmeshwar Ganame, Senior Police Inspector, DN Nagar police station.
