A 35-year-old man was found murdered in a room in Antop Hill area on Sunday morning. The house in which the body was found was rented. The deceased person, identified as Jitendra Chavan, was attacked with a sharp weapon, the police said.

According to the Wadala TT police, the incident occurred in a room behind Markandeshwar Mandir at Vijay Nagar slums in Antop Hill. On Sunday around 11am, children who were playing nearby the house saw light outside the room and the door locked from outside. Suspecting something amiss, children opened the latch and were shocked to see a man lying inside in a pool of blood.

This sparked panic in the vicinity and soon the police were informed. The police then made inquiries with the owner of the room, Manju Natraj Devendra. Devendra stays in the same locality. Devendra told the police that she had given the room on rent to one Shriram Chavan, 40, four months ago.

"As per Devendra, Chavan is a mason and three/four more persons stayed with him in the room. She could not identify the deceased person. Chavan, who was Shriram's younger brother, was attacked on his face with a sharp weapon and his head was banged on the floor," said an officer from the Wadala police station. Chavan's body was then taken to Sion hospital for post-mortem.

"All efforts are being made to trace the accused persons. A case of murder has been registered in this regard," said senior police inspector Suhas Garud of Wadala TT police station.
