Two days after a 32-year-old man allegedly flung a four-year-old child under a moving train, the accused has been arrested by the Dindoshi police.

Who is the accused and why did he commit the crime?
The accused, Sandeep Bhaire, works as a housekeeping staff in a mall. According to the police, Bhaire used to be in a relationship with the child's mother. However, the accused suspected her of having an affair and decided to kill the child out of spite, said the police.

The woman and the child's father had separated a few years ago.

What were the sequence of events?
On Monday evening, Bhaire met the child's mother in Malad (E) and took the child to a garden nearby. Later, he kidnapped the child and went to Jogeshwari railway station.
A police officer said: "From the railway platform, he threw the child under a running train that was headed to Churchgate. The train crushed the child's right hand and the doctors had to amputate the wrist to save the hand."

How did the child end up being saved?
After Bhaire flung the child and saw the train crushing the child's hand, he changed his mind and decided to save the child.
The boy was rushed to the Jogeshwari Trauma Centre by the accused, after which he was taken to KEM Hospital.

What action has been taken against the accused?
The hospital authorities informed the GRP, following which a case was registered. Shashikant Surve, senior PI of Dindoshi police, confirmed this, saying: "The Borivli GRP transferred the case to us on Wednesday and accordingly, we registered a case and arrested the accused."

Bhaire was arrested for kidnapping and attempt to murder, and remanded to police custody till February 3.
