A 48-year-old man fell into an 8-feet-deep septic tank of a public toilet in Vidyavihar early on Tuesday morning. The victim, Narayan Baga, went to relieve himself at 5.30am when suddenly the toilet seat sunk and he fell inside the septic tank. Baga was rescued by locals using a saree and is admitted to Rajwadi hospital, Ghatkopar.
“Baga was bleeding a lot and is likely to undergo a surgery on Wednesday. After the locals rescued him, he was given a bath and taken to the hospital. It is mere negligence of the BMC”, said local activist Kamlesh Kapasi.
Kapasi said, “A BMC engineer visited the spot on Tuesday morning and said they had planned repairs of the public toilet but the tender is not yet passed. It is very irresponsible of local civic authorities.”
The toilet is located near Shiv Krupa Society, behind ONGC Colony, Banjara Basti, Jawahar Nagar, Vidyavihar East. Officials from BMC disaster control said, “We got the call at 10.50pm and a junior engineer had visited the spot.
The victim is admitted in Rajwadi hospital and is in stable condition.”
