Man dies after tree falls on his car in Malad

48-year-old Parag Pawaskar was on his way home after dropping his daughter to school. Two persons in another car next to victim's miraculously escaped unhurt

A 48-year-old accountant lost his life after a huge tree fell on the car he was travelling in on Friday. The incident took place when the deceased, identified as Parag Pawaskar, had gone to drop his daughter to Dr S Radhakrishnan School at Sunder Nagar, Malad.

Sadly, it also happened to be Pawaskar's birthday. Three other people also sustained injuries in the accident, while two persons in another car next to Pawaskar's miraculously escaped unhurt.

"The morning time is crucial because of the school time. A lot of office goers also take this road towards SV Road. A school bus just passed from the spot a minute before the tree collapsed," said Manish Mohnot, an eye witness.
Mohnot stays in Shivam Cooperative Housing Society and had stepped down to see off her children for school. The Malad police registered a case of an accidental death for the inquiry.

"The incident occurred between 8am and 8:30am when Parag Pawaskar (48), a Malad resident was on his way home after dropping her daughter to school situated in Sunder Nagar. The half-a-century-old tree collapsed exactly on the roof of the car, Pawaskar got critically injured and died on the spot. Pawaskar had purchased the car six months ago and it was also his birthday on Friday. Further investigation is going on," said senior police inspector Sudhir Mahadik.

Residents of the area said that the tree was more than 50-year-old. It collapsed on the road and a temple along with two other trees. Eye-witnesses stated that Pawaskar was badly trapped inside the car and fire brigade took five hours to remove the body from the vehicle with help of three cranes. "The body was mangled. Fire Brigade personnel had to cut the roof of the car to remove the body," said an onlooker.

Meenakshi Kilpady, principal of Dr S Radhakrishnan Vidyalaya, said: "We will extend every facility to the child. We are with the family in this tragic time."

When asked whether school decided to inform the child who was in the school late about the accident, she said: "It was a matter of the family so we waited for them to come. We are extending and will continue to extend our cooperation to the family and our care and support to the child."
