The Dindoshi Sessions court rejected the bail application of a 25-year-old youth who allegedly broke up with his girlfriend after realising that she belonged to a scheduled caste community. The court in its orders held that the applicant does not deserve bail as there is possibility that he will threaten the informant and witnesses, and a charge sheet is yet to be filed against the accused.

The case dates back to 2016, when a 22-year-old woman filed a complaint against Chetan Surve alleging that he abused her because of her caste and that was the reason for their split. The two were in a relationship for two years.

The court's order copy states, "It was on April 14, 2016, when the victim went to attend Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's event, that he learned that the victim belonged to backward class, and thus abused her." The prosecution claimed that this alleged incident hurt the victim's religious sentiments and thus she approached the police to register a complaint.

The prosecution's case also states that the victim was allegedly taken to Manori on the pretext of marriage, and the accused developed physical relations with her. He also threatened the victim with her obscene pictures and demanded Rs 60,000. The accused, however, claimed that all allegations were false and pleaded the court to grant him bail.
