A 38-year-old prominent builder was killed and his 30-year-old wife was attacked allegedly by her former husband at their Jogeshwari residence on Saturday morning. The woman had divorced her husband and married the builder last February. The woman suffered severe stab wounds and is recuperating in a city hospital.

According to the police, Ali Asgar Bhanpurawala, a resident of Mazgaon and a managing director of Reliable Group, was at his residence in Iris Park in Patel Estate of Jogeshwari West with his wife Bismillah. On Saturday morning, accused Umar Shaikh was seen in the CCTV camera footage of the building with his face covered. Shaikh allegedly stabbed both of them which killed Bhanpurawala and severely injured his former wife.
Bhanpurwala and his first wife are fighting a divorce case, and he has children from his first marriage. The woman who was injured in the incident also has children from her first marriage. "The motive was clear, the accused did not like the second marriage of his wife and he came prepared with the weapon and as soon as the woman opened the door, her former husband stabbed her," said a Oshiwara police officer.
"Later after hearing the screams, Bhanpurawala came running out in the hall and he too was stabbed repeatedly, leading to his death", said the officer.
Subhash Khanvilkar, Senior Inspector, Oshiwara police station said, "We have arrested the accused under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code against Umar Shaikh."
"The accused was seen entering the building and the woman too have given the statement against her former husband and we are investigating further", said Khanvilkar.
