Man arrested for sexually assaulting child in Mumbai

A 45-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl three days ago.

Accused Ramesh Devji Watare assaulted the girl on Wednesday and fled after a neighbour saw him and alerted her mother, according to MHB police in suburban Borivali.

Watare was unemployed, while his wife and children worked, they said.

"Watare called the girl to his house when others had left for work and sexually assaulted her," said a police official.

Police launched a man-hunt for him after the victim's mother approached them.

"We got a tip-off that the accused would be going to his friend's house yesterday and arrested him after laying a trap," said the official.

He has been booked under the relevant offences under the Indian Penal Code as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
