A 27-year-old man on Thursday approached the MRA Marg police, complaining against singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya for allegedly making "hurtful" remarks, following the verdict in actor Salman Khan's hit-and-run case on Wednesday.
The complainant, Nachiket Kulkarni, is a resident of Fort. "People were expressing their opinions through social media. Singer Abhijeet also expressed his opinion on Twitter through his personal verified account @abhijeetsinger," Kulkarni's complaint copy stated.
Some of the singer's tweets, which were mentioned in the complaint, were:
"Suicide is crime so is sleeping on footpath...80% homeless film ppl stugld achieved stardom but never slept on footpath @BeingSalmanKhan"
"Mumbai ke road aur footpath pe sone ka shauk hai?? Y not at your village no vehicles to kill u...Support @BeingSalmanKhan"
"Come out fraternity, support @BeingSalmanKhan boldly not hypocritically. Roads footpaths r not meant 4 sleeping, not driver's or alcohol's fault"
"Roads are meant for cars and dogs not for people sleeping on them..@BeingSalmanKhan is not at fault at all.."
"Through these expressions, Abhijeet has promoted enmity between different groups on the ground of poverty. Many people have expressed their grievances in response to these statements," the complaint copy stated.
Kulkarni had asked the police to take action against the singer under section 153-A of the Indian Penal Code.
"Kulkarni has given us an application to register a case. We will make inquiries and take legal opinion before registering an FIR," said senior inspector Ashok Jagdale of the MRA Marg police station.
