A 50-year-old man was arrested by the VP Road police on Friday for allegedly sexually harassing his 17-year-old daughter. The accused has been allegedly molesting the girl since over one year. Tired of the frequent harassment, the minor approached the police on Friday and the accused father was arrested.
According to the police, the girl is a first year college student living at Mugbhat area of Girgaon with her younger brother and parents. In her complaint, the girl has alleged that her father has been sexually harassing her since April 2013. The minor told the police that since they live in a small house, all the family members sleep next to each other. She further alleged that at night, her father would touch her private parts when she was alseep. Satish Gore, sub-inspector at the VP Road police station, said, "The girl approached us and narrated the incident to a woman constable after which we registered a case and arrested the accused father."
In the month of May, the minor confided in her mother about the harassment, after which the mother spoke to her husband and told him to mend his ways. However, after the intervention, the accused abused her more for complaining.
It was the girl's friends who brought her to the police station to register a complaint. PSI Gore said, "On June 26, the accused again allegedly molested his daughter, after which she narrated her ordeal to her friends, who brought her to the police station."
On the girl's complaint, the police booked the accused under IPC sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and section 8 (Punishment for sexual assault) of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. The accused was present before in court on Friday that remanded into police custody till July 17.
