A day after a 24-year-old domestic help was arrested by the Malad police for allegedly raping a 19-year-old mentally challenged girl in her house, the police is planning to record statements of the girl's psychiatrist from Nair Hospital and counsellor from school, in whom she confided about her sexual assault. The accused, Babulal Dodiyar, has been remanded under police custody till July 21.

A police officer from Malad said, "The girl doesn't talk much due to her condition. Therefore, we need the presence of her psychiatrist to record her statements. We will also be taking statements of the psychiatrist and the counsellor with whom she spoke about the alleged sexual assault."

According to the police, Dodiyar, a native of Rajasthan, worked and lived in the same house over the last six years. He allegedly took advantage of the girl's mental condition and raped her between June 25 and July 7 this year. The girl, whose mental age is that of an 11-year-old, however, kept mum about this. When her school's counsellor saw a change in her behaviour, she informed her parents. The girl later confessed to a psychiatrist and her father's office receptionist about the incident.

The girl stays with her parents, who are real estate agents. The girl also has a younger sister, who has a speech disorder. Although the girl has revealed one incident of alleged rape, the police is finding out whether she was sexually assaulted more than once. "Investigations are on. Currently, the girl is not in a state of mind to speak. Therefore, we will be talking to her friends, family, psychiatrist and counsellors to find out more," added Balsingh Rajput, DCP of zone 11.
