Make in Maharashtra to counter Vibrant Gujarat

It's going to be Make in Maharashtra now. But chief minister Devendra Fadnavis' initiative is meant more to counter his Gujarat counterpart Anandiben Patel's road show in Mumbai than to emulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India campaign.

Patel's road show in Mumbai, as part of the Vibrant Gujarat campaign, was held to to attract investors to her state.

On Monday, Fadnavis met top industrialists like Mukesh Ambani, Baba Kalyani and Ajay Piramal at state guest house Sahyadri and discussed ways in which the industrial sector can be strengthened.

The meeting was held to give an impetus to the Make in Maharashtra initiative. The state's manufacturing sector was the central theme and the meeting deliberated on how to make Maharashtra the preferred investment destination for the sector.

Industries minister Prakash Mehta, chief secretary Swadhin Kshatriya and other senior officials were present.

While Maharashtra continues to be the preferred destination for Foreign Direct Investment and domestic investment across service sectors, the meeting reviewed infrastructure, land, approval processes and various reforms in laws that affect manufacturing sector.

Fadnavis emphasised on making the approval processes for industries more efficient and transparent and bringing them on to a common e-Platform.

Chief Minister will facilitate inter-departmental coordination for time-bound approval and implementation of these Policies:
a. Agro and Food Processing Policy

b. State Procurement Policy

c. State Manufacturing Policy

d. State Policy for SEZs and Export Oriented Units (EOUs)

e. New IT and ITES Policy

f. State Electronics Policy

g. State Retail Trade Policy

h. Discontinuation of the existing Location Policy for MMR

Make in Maharashtra decisions
i) An Empowered Group of Secretaries of Finance, Labour, Industries, Revenue

ii) Investments of more than Rs 100 crore will be provided hand-holding services

iii) River Regulation Zone policy to be reviewed

iv) Chief Minister will head a committee that will meet once every month

v) MIDC would be made Special Planning Authority for declared industrial zones

vi) Expansion of industry, outside MIDC, would be fast-tracked
