Fire engulfs scrapyard in Mumbai's Mankhurd, no injuries reported

A major fire broke out at a godown near Maya Hotel in Mumbai's Mankhurd on Sunday.

The fire, which took place around 6 am, soon turned into a level 4 fire, according to the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB). Flames later spread to nearby godowns.

Fire tenders were soon rushed to the spot to bring the blaze under control.

The fire has confined plastic drums, packing material, stock of oil, scrap material, Bisleri bottles, electric wiring, plywood, wooden furniture, scrap wiring, stock of chemical, wooden and GI sheet partition etc. in an area about 1000 x 800 sq ft. in around 50-60 galas.

3 Fire Axe Machine, Pvt tankers arrived at the place of incident and 9 jets of 17 fire engines are in operation.

No injuries are reported as of now, Chief fire officer PS Rahangdale informed.

Asst Commissioner Municipal of M-East Ward instructed officials to demolish illegally built structure and lodge FIR against responsible persons. 

Mumbai Police said: "All Officer and Staff of Fire Brigade and Police officials of Mankhurd Police Station are on spot for further support."

Local residents said the fire started at a shop in a scrap yard on the Mankhurd-Ghatkopar highway, according to media reports. 

On February 8, two people were injured after a fire broke out in Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) building situated in Mumbai's Malad area.
