City's Jain community plans to celebrate Mahavir Jayanti on a large scale today. However, this time around along with rath yatras — an integral part of the celebration — a study was also conducted by ISRO Scientists along with city-based neurologists and educationists, to gauge the impact of Saraswati Sadhana on 100 students. Result of the study will be declared on April 24.

A team of six people conducted the 36-day study that monitored the memory power of the students, who went through 16 different tests.

Acharyashir Naychandrasagarsuri, who initiated the programme, said: "Around 2,500 students have been a part of the Saraswati Sandhiya programme till date. It is based on one root mantra — Om Aim Namah, a mantra used for Saraswati pooja. The programme also comprises meditation, mantra chanting, mantra chanting with music and repeat writing of the mantra along with other things. The whole regime is supposed to be followed for half-an-hour daily for 36 consecutive days."

He added: "There are various levels beyond this. Our work is not bound only to the Jain community. This programme is open to all."

Talking about the study, Dr Paresh Doshi, a neurosurgeon, said: "It is a detailed psychological analysis on the memory power, attention and behaviour of the students. The basis of this whole theory comes from our history. My job was to assess the impact of the outcome on these students." The ceremony will also have an ideal parenting workshop to bridge the gap between children and parents.

Seema Shah of Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation said: "Entire Jain community of Mira Road along with all other Mira-Bhayandar associations have organised a function on Mahavir Jayanti. This year Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation has allotted Rs40 lakh rupees for celebration. Besides this all the Jain organisationss and NPOs are going to come out for the rath yatra. We are expecting around 2,500 people for this."
