Officials from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) have predicted that the monsoon will begin weakening from Wednesday after several parts of the state saw heavy to very heavy rains in the last couple of days.

"We predicted isolated heavy rainfall for Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri district on Tuesday, along with other parts in northern Madhya Maharashtra, and on Wednesday there can be heavy rains at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan, but we expect the rains to weaken thereafter," said Ajay Kumar, scientist, IMD.

Meanwhile, for the next five days, Mumbai is likely to witness light to moderate showers. "There is no significant weather system, and hence for the next five days there could be light rains," he said. Till August 21, Santacruz has recorded 2063.7mm, while Colaba has recorded 1642.6mm of rains.

As per popular weather blog Vagaries of Weather, four stations in Maharashtra's Ghats' section have crossed 6000 mm rainfall mark for current season, till August 18.

Kitwade, Aajra lead with 6147mm, Lamaj, Mahabaleshwar (6131mm), Shirgaon, Mulshi (6050mm) and Tamhini, Mulshi follow with 6000mm rainfall.
