The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has issued a circular notifying all schools in the state that the new marking system of scoring 20% in written examination for students from Class 9 to 12 has been stayed.

The board had proposed to make it compulsory for these students to score 20% in written examination and have an aggregate of 35% marks to pass the board examination. This was to be effective from this academic year.

The proposal of the new marking system was taken when the board had noticed that students were scoring more marks in oral or practical internal examination conducted in schools and colleges and fewer marks in the written examination.

MSBSHSE, Pune issued the circular on January 11. Confirming the information, Duttatray Jagtap, chairman, Mumbai divisional board, said: "The board has issued a circular for all the schools stating that the proposal of scoring 20% in written examination has been stayed by the government for this year. However, there is no intimation whether it will be implemented next year or not."
