The Bombay high court was informed on Monday that the probe by the state Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) against former Maharashtra PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal and his family for alleged money laundering was still on.

Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, counsel for the ACB, told a division bench headed by chief justice Mohit Shah that the open inquiry against Bhujbal, his son Pankaj and nephew Sameer was still on. The ACB had in February this year submitted its first progress report to the HC.

The investigating agency informed that it would submit a second report before the court on April 29.

The ACB and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had initiated an inquiry against Bhujbal following an HC directive in a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by the Aam Aadmi Party which alleged that as PWD minister Bhujbal had favoured a contractor by the name of Chamankar Enterprises to rebuild the Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi at a cost of Rs100 crore.

"The contractor had in turn made payments to two companies, namely, Origin Infrastructure Pvt Ltd and Ideen Furniture, which were controlled by Bhujbal and his relatives," says the PIL.

The PIL asked for a registration of an FIR against Bhujbal and his relatives and also a probe into the allegations by a special investigation team (SIT).

The HC, on December 18, 2014, had directed formation of an SIT to probe 11 different allegations of irregularities relating to money transfer above Rs1 crore in bank accounts of private companies run by Bhujbal, his sons and employees of Mumbai Education Trust and their family members.

The SIT was to be formed with the director general of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and director of Directorate of Enforcement (ED).
