The State Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) grilled senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal's son Pankaj in connection with the alleged Maharashtra Sadan scam in ACB's Worli office on Wednesday. This comes after the Bombay high court on Tuesday dismissed Pankaj's review petition challenging an inquiry being conducted by the ACB against him and his father.

The ACB had already finished two rounds of questioning with Sameer Bhujbal, Chhagan Bhujbal's nephew, on Friday last week and on Tuesday.

The officials said that interrogations with Pankaj were along the same lines as Sameer and his statements have been recorded by the Special Investigation Team. The grilling went on for three hours, said the officials.

According to the officers, more people associated with the alleged scam, including Bhujbal himself, will be summoned in the next few days. "We have been instructed to submit the report on the allegations before the high court by February 28. It is a long process. We might ask for an extension if more people have to be interrogated," said an officer.

According to the allegations, Bhujbal, while serving as the PWD minister, had been accused of misusing his official position in awarding the contract for Maharashtra Sadan to his friend and relatives not capable of executing such projects. The cost of the project had also allegedly escalated several times over original estimates.

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya had approached the ACB, seeking an inquiry against Bhujbal, alleging that his friends and family-owned companies were involved in transactions and malpractices and pocketed crores of rupees in the process. Last December, the state government gave its nod to ACB to conduct an open inquiry into the allegations, following which a special investigation team was formed.
