Despite many hurdles within the Congress, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan's clean image has helped him remain in the chair and win confidence of the party high command.

However, a senior Congress leader has said that one of the factors which worked in favour of Chavan is TINA (There Is no Alternative). This is because the party has been at the receiving end as names of three past chief ministers figured in the alleged Adarsh society scam.

The leader also pointed out that since Chavan had worked in the prime minister's office as a minister of state, none of the other state leaders including Narayan Rane, Patangrao Kadam, Balasaheb Thorat, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil and Harshawardhan Patil had the stature to match Chavan politically.

Party spokesperson and MLC Anant Gadgil said that Chavan has a clean image and this would help the party during the assembly elections. He said that had there been a change of guards in the state, it would have hampered the party's poll prospects.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Sanjay Dutt said, "The party high command has full trust in the chief minister and that is the reason all the leaders like Rane, Ashok Chavan, Shinde, Kadam and others are working under his leadership for the campaign."
