The Maharashtra police barged into Congress MLA and Opposition leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil's official residence in Mumbai during a press conference on Thursday.

Patil alleged that the BJP government had sent the police officers to spy on their political activities. The leader alleged that Assistant Police Inspector Suhas Samant and constable Bajirao Sargar from the special branch, dressed in plain clothes, trespassed in his official residence. They even clicked pictures of the journalists who were asking questions in the press conference. When Patil noticed their suspicious activities and asked for their identities, they revealed that they were from the police department.

Patil immediately called the Mumbai Police Commissioner Datta Padsalgikar who informed Patil that they had not asked anyone to spy on the Opposition's activity.

Patil alleged that the BJP government has been snooping on their activities. "If the Opposition leader is not safe and his premises have been snooped by the police then what about the common man? This is nothing but an autocratic act in a free India. I will take up this issue with the governor," said Patil.

He further stated that the person who was responsible for this illegal act of spying should be suspended immediately. "We cannot even stay freely in our own house. We will not tolerate this snooping model in Maharashtra. The government has lost trust in the constitution, therefore, they are indulging in such spying activities. Therefore, we are forced to march on January 26 to save the nation's constitution," Patil said.

"I have received confidential and shocking information that the phones of Opposition leaders have been tapped as well. I know the person who is doing this job. Once I get all the details, I will disclose it in public," Patil said.

NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said the BJP is famous for its snooping model. "The Gujarat snooping model has now been implemented in Maharashtra. However, we will oppose this model," said Malik.
