Maharashtra: Petrol bomb hurled outside Kalyan cinema hall during Padmaavat screening

Reportedly, the film theatre is located near a gas station and situation could have been worse if the bomb had exploded.

On Saturday at around 9.10pm, two unidentified persons hurled petrol bombs outside the Kalyan cinema hall during the screening of Padmaavat in Thane district; however, it failed to explode. The Mahatma Phule Chowk police team is investigating the matter.

According to police, the Bhanu Sagar cinema hall at Kalyan was screening Padmaavat when two unidentified bike-borne persons hurled petrol bombs outside the theatre leading to scare among the moviegoers. The show was about to start when the incident took place. A heavy police force was deployed at the theatre.

"We have registered the case against two persons in this regard and are investigating further. We are checking the CCTV cameras of the locality and we will soon nab ths culprits.", said Sukhada Narkar, PRO for Thane police department.

Reportedly, the film theatre is located near a gas station and situation could have been worse if the bomb had exploded.

"It was a pretty big bomb and its impact could have been severe had it exploded," said a witness outside the cinema hall.

The protests against the Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus refuse to die down. Multiple states in the northern, western and central regions of the country have been witnessing protest against the film.

After undergoing modifications and a legal battle, the film finally hit the theatres on January 25 and despite Supreme Court clearing the way for its release, its screenings continue to face the wrath of protesters, especially of Rajput Karni Sena.
