The approvals of building permission from Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) will now speed up. The authority has started an online system MHADA AutoDCR Procedure System (MAPS) which will make the process fast and transparent.

In the last one year, since MHADA was declared as planning authority in May 2018, of the 114 layouts, it has approved 32 layouts comprising of 542 buildings that were given permissions. This was done manually till now.

On Friday, the housing authority's president Uday Samant, inaugurated an online system where developers, architects can upload the file. He said, "The process till now was a manual system where developers would submit the application and MHADA officials would then pass it. However, now things will change, all approvals will be done online, including payments for the approvals."

MHADA was appointed the planning authority by the state government on May 23, 2018. Since then it was authorised to give permission of carrying out redevelopment of old and dilapidated buildings in its layout. Recently MHADA was also given the status of planning authority even for the dilapidated buildings located in South Mumbai. There are more than 14,000 such dilapidated cessed buildings in South Mumbai that needs urgent repair.

The website currently would take care of permissions to be granted under Development Control Rules 33 (5) meant for MHADA layout. However, recently MHADA was appointed planning authority for dilapidated cessed buildings which are mostly developed under DCR 33 (7). An official said that this would be included in the system later, and as the DCR (Development Control Rules) is available already in the system it would be easy to implement.

Apart from this Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna (PMAY) projects that fall within the municipal corporation of Mumbai area will be now given permission online via this system.
