Maharashtra Governor keeps 5 inter-state projects out of his directive's purview

Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan has kept five inter-state projects and the Gosikhurd national project out of the purview of his directives of equitable distribution of funds to erase the backlog in the irrigation sector.

This has been mentioned in the latest Governor directives regarding equitable distribution of funds for 2014-2015 tabled in the legislative Assembly today.

It would enable the state government to allocate adequate funds for these projects on priority.

As per the provision in the Constitution, the state Governor has the special responsibility to ensure equitable distribution of development funds to all the regions of the state.

The Governor lamented that some of his previous directives have not been fully complied with.

According to him, the Planning Department has not carried out the exercise of classification of non-divisible items and subsequent categorisation of expenditure in the regions concerned.

The Governor has directed the Chief Secretary to review the compliance of the current as well as the previous directives regularly and address policy issues at the level of the state government.

The overall allocation available for Water Resources Department in the annual plan of 2014-15 is Rs 9,281.04 crore The proposed allocation of inter-state projects is Rs 100 crore and for the Gosikhurd project it is Rs 875 crore.

On the recommendation of the state government, the Governor has kept the five inter-state projects and the Gosikhurd project out of the purview of his directives to enable the government to allocate adequate funds for the same on priority.
