Maharashtra government to train schools on disaster management

Minister for education Vinod Tawde on Wednesday informed that the government would introduce disaster management training programme sessions in all the schools in the state.

Minister for education Vinod Tawde on Wednesday informed that the government would introduce disaster management training programme sessions in all the schools in the state.

Tawde informed media persons that there is a wave of fear among the student community and taking a cue from the Nepal earthquake the government would conduct these programmes in schools. He said that an entire range of do's and don'ts after an earthquake and other natural calamities would be taught during the programme.

The government aims at starting these programmes for schoolchildren from standard IV. Meanwhile, sources in the disaster management cell informed that

the programme would be based on Centre's National School Safety Programme. An official informed that the students as well as teachers would be imparted training to deal with natural calamities like earthquakes and floods. He also said that in our conditions, especially in rural pars of the state, flood was a calamity which is occurs more frequently.

The official informed that there are 200 schools in Satara and Pune which have undergone the training on a pilot basis and this would be replicated in all other schools from this academic year.
