Having decided to celebrate former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's birth day as Sushasan Din (good governance day), the Maharashtra government plans to observe 2015 as the year of efficient delivery of services. The state will make extensive use of technology to achieve the purpose.

In a letter to Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has listed the decisions taken by his government so far. According to the communication, a web portal and mobile app – Apale Sarkar (our government) – would be launched soon to help the public take part in policy making.

Fadnavis has conveyed to the centre that he would be working towards implementing the 'Less Government, more Governance' model as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His letter says that the state would push for online systems in all the departments to ensure better transparency in government-related works.

The CM has pointed out that he would be giving thrust on e-governance and the concept of paperless offices in the next one year. Simplification of various government forms and self-attestation are some of the steps taken in this direction, says his letter.

Currently, there are 85 online citizens facilitation centres in the state and these are reflected on Mahaonline portal of the government. The CM has said that decentralisation of powers within the departments, especially pertaining to powers to transfer, was a step towards bringing in more transparency.

File RTI queries online from Jan 1
The Maharashtra government has decided to roll out RTI online in the state secretariat from January 1, 2015. Information can be sought using the online route from all government offices from April 1.
"When we allow people to make RTI queries online, we will be better poised to monitor these queries and ensure that information is provided to the seeker within a specific time frame. As of now, if a person fails to get an answer within one month, he tries again, and this process goes on and on for certain queries. We want to put an end to this," Fadnavis told PTI.
