The issue of the decrepit remand home in Dombivli cropped up during the question hour in the legislative assembly on Thursday. It was then stated that the condition of remand homes was poor and the government's views were sought on it.

Replying to the questions, Vidya Thakur, minister of state for women and child development, said, "We will be holding a meeting on the issue with various parties." Members wanted to know if the money allotted for looking after meals and other requirements will be increased. One of the members suggested that the sum be increased from Rs635 per child to Rs1,000.

The government stated that old dilapidated building in Dombivli that is used as a remand home will be demolished and a new one will be constructed. "We will make a provision for the new one in the coming budget itself," said Thakur.
