Two months after former union home secretary and now BJP's Member of Parliament RK Singh made allegations that a few corrupt officers from the Mumbai police on Dawood Ibrahim's payroll led to botching of covert operation on the most wanted underworld don in 2005, there is still no word on the issue from the Maharashtra government in this regard.

Immediately after Singh's allegations, Maharashtra CM had said if the allegations are true, an inquiry would be initiated into the matter. The issue has come to the fore again on Tuesday after Rajan told media persons in Bali that there are some people in Mumbai police who work with Dawood.

In August this year, RK Singh in an interview to a television channel had claimed that "A group was being trained to target Dawood, but he had people in Mumbai Police on his pay roll who were alerted. Mumbai Police came saying there is a warrant against them. But I cannot say whether it's confirmed. I have just heard it...I don't have evidence," Singh had said.

Singh had claimed that India had planned a covert operation to target Dawood which was launched when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister, but it was compromised by some corrupt elements in Mumbai Police.
Reacting to this, CM Fadnavis had told media persons that the allegations levelled were very serious and if substantiated, the government will hold an inquiry into the matter.

While speaking to reporters in Bali, underworld don Chhota Rajan and Dawood's archrival on Tuesday made a similar explosive claim. "Bombay police ne mere par bahut atyachaar kiya hai.. Mumbai mein kuch log, police Dawood ke saath mil kar kaam kar rahe hain..." (Bombay police have done a lot of atrocities on me....some men, police in Mumbai are working with Dawood)," Rajan said.

CM Fadanavis and additional chief secretary (home) KP Bakshi did not respond to the text messages sent to them asking about the status of the inquiry.
