The Maharashtra government will soon take a decision to beef up security in and outside the state legislature and Mantralaya situated in south Mumbai. Apart from the deployment of more security personnel, the government plans to focus on installation of more CCTVs, scanning machines and dog squads, and making Aadhar mandatory for availing pass to enter the premises of the Mantralaya.

After Pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), an explosive powder, was found inside the Uttar Pradesh assembly, the state home department and director general of police separately reviewed security arrangement at the Mantralaya and the Legislature on Friday. The decision to increase security was taken thereafter as the three-week monsoon session of the state legislature will start from July 24.

Maharashtra Legislative Council chairman Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar and Maharashtra Legislative Assembly speaker Haribhau Bagde will soon jointly convene a meeting with the concerned officers from the home, public works, finance and general administration seeking speedy clearance for the allotment of additional funds needed to beef up security. Naik Nimbalkar told DNA, ''The government will be asked to release funds on a priority basis to further improve security in and outside the legislature.''

As far as Mantralaya is concerned, the Public Works Department will soon prepare a comprehensive plan based on the suggestions from home department to increase the security. The officer informed that the Mantralaya compound wall will now be increased to an eight feet height and it will be wired. Every visitor after checking for Aadhar will be provided with a specific visitor's pass which will display the information of the visitor and their purpose of visit.

A senior officer informed that the legislature area has already been declared as a 'no man zone' and restrictions have been introduced on the entry of vehicles.

"As of today, there are 121 police personnel in uniform as well as in civil clothes deployed in and outside the premises. However, during the budget and monsoon sessions, more than 300 personnel are deployed. Besides, Quick Response Team (QRT) is also deployed. Currently, 26 CCTVs are installed at key points.
