Out of 4,100 posts in the regional transport offices across Maharashtra, over 1,303 are lying vacant, the government admitted in the written reply to a question raised in the legislative council on Tuesday.
The Devendra Fadnavis-led government, however, claimed that the process of fulfilling the vacant posts was on.
Legislators Smita Wagh and Vijay Hire have raised the issue stating that common citizens were being hassled as the government has stopped the entry of agents into RTOs to stop corruption. Lack of adequate staff in the RTOs was increasing people's worries, members alleged.
Transport minister Diwakar Raote, however, in a written reply denied that the work in RTOs has suffered after the agents were barred entering the offices.
