Maharashtra government has decided to give permission to hotels and beer bars to run 24/7 on December 31 night as the New Year rings in.

However, police have said that despite Maharashtra government's decision of permitting to run the hotels through the night on December 31, these establishment will have to first seek police permission.

Shiv Sena youth leader Aditya Thackeray had demanded the 24/7 permission to hotels industry in the non-residential areas. Thackeray had also written to chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis demanding opening up the night life scene in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Pune. Thackeray had said that hotels that run in day time are legal, cannot become illegal when they have to run in the night.

"If we permit hotels to run round the clock, that will help to increase the government revenue. Besides, people will also get entertainment from the busy life. We need to trust the citizens and give them space to live the life, " Thackeray had said in his letter.

He also reminded that in 2013, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has already approved the night life proposals. "The Mumbai police commissioner also wetted this proposal in 2015. In 2017, the same proposal was approved as Bill. Since then, this proposal is pending with the state home department for its approval," Thackeray added in his letter.
