It is good news for 14000 second buyers in the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme. The Maharashtra government has decided to give relief to second buyers in the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme's where the ten years not to sale embargo was violated by the first seller.

Ravindra Waikar, Minister for State Housing told DNA that as per the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) norms, the beneficiaries of houses in SRA scheme cannot sell the tenements at least for ten years.

"If he/she sales their tenements, then these type of transactions would not be considered valid. However, we had decided to reconsider the decision and give relief to these buyers by giving deemed to be the conveyance to these redeveloped SRA buildings. This will ensure that second buyers are automatically owners of their tenements," informed Waikar.

He said that there are over 14,000 such second buyers of SRA tenements who had violated the ten years, not to sale norms in Mumbai. "Earlier government had decided to evict these second buyers. But we have decided to take a lenient view. After all, they had paid their hard earned money to buy them. Now, the transactions have already happened. We cannot rescind it. So, it is better to give them relief and move further," the minister added.

The ministry has also met the CM's office in this regard and has secured his in principle go ahead. Besides a committee has been formed for ground-level implementation of the decision.
