With the BJP set to elect the 44-year old Devendra Fadnavis as its legislature party leader, Congress may also elect a young MLA as its legislature party leader. The party is to hold its legislature party meeting in the first week of November.

Speaking to a few media persons on Monday, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Manikrao Thakare said the party had experienced leaders like Prithviraj Chavan, Patangrao Kadam, Balasaheb Thorat and Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil who have been elected to the state assembly and as such there was no dearth of leadership. However, for rejuvenating the party cadre and attracting the young to the party, Congress could choose a young MLA to lead the party in the House, he said.

Of course, Thakare added: "The decision would be taken at the legislature party meeting and it would have to get the nod from the party high command."

He said the elected MLAs would hold an informal meeting over tea in the next two-three days and the legislature party meeting would be held in the first week of November. Central observers would also be present and the party is likely to elect a young face as its legislature party leader. Congress has Amit Deshmukh, Praniti Shinde, Aslam Shaikh, Sangram Thopte and a few others who are young and with adequate experience in the House.

Cong state chiefs to meet
