Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray claimed that the party would get its own chief minister in Maharashtra and an equal share of power in the state. Justifying the party's decision to settle for just 124 of 288 state assembly seats, Uddhav said this was because the BJP leaders had requested him to consider their difficulties.

However, this alliance would ensure that the Shiv Sena got its highest tally of legislators.

In an interview to the Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna on Monday, Uddhav claimed that his son and Yuva Sena chief Aaditya, who is contesting the state assembly polls from Worli in Mumbai, will become the first from Thackeray family to seek public office, may not immediately become the chief minister or the deputy chief minister.

The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance would not "crash-land" as both parties have experienced what could happen if they were in an alliance and vice versa. The Sena president said while the party had compromised on their demand for half of 288 seats, with a lion's share going to the BJP and its four smaller allies. they would get an equal share of power when the saffron alliance came to power after the elections this month.

In a significant statement, Uddhav, who was speaking to Saamna executive editor and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut, said in 2014, after the BJP snapped its alliance with the Shiv Sena, the Sena had stopped the BJP's juggernaut in Maharashtra.

"That was a war. In Maharashtra, we stopped a wave that had swept the country... we became the voice of the people despite being in power," he claimed.

"He has come into politics just now. This does not mean Aaditya will immediately become the chief minister or deputy chief minister. This is his first election," said Uddhav, about his son Aaditya. "This is his first election. He has interest in legislative work, be it the state assembly, Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha.

"We will (install a Shiv Sena chief minister," Uddhav told Raut, adding that he had made a promise in this regard to his father, late Sena chief Bal Thackeray. "Let anyone (BJP) listen to this or not. I did not make this promise after asking anyone," he averred.
