Maharashtra assembly polls: Rs 25 lakh cash seized in Mumbai

Mumbai police seized cash of over Rs 15 lakh in two separate incidents on Tuesday, the eve of polling day in Maharashtra.

Rs 24 lakh were seized from a man named Rajendra Prasad who was traveling in a Toyota Innova on Tuesday midnight. Bharadwaj was stopped during nakabandi near Bombay Gymkhana in South Mumbai by the police and the cash was found in a bag kept behind the driver’s seat. Bharadwaj was handed over to the Income Tax authorities while the cash seized has been deposited at the Azad Maidan police station.

In another incident, Rs 1.66 lakh were seized from two women in Vikroli, who claimed the money was for polling agents’ food and other expenses. The police control room was alerted about money being distributed at Sandesh Vidyalaya in Vikroli, and a team from Parksite police station rushed to the spot early in the morning. 

Two women,  Laxmi Navsupe and Megha Mhatre were found in possession of 83 packets that contained Rs 1.66 lakh in total, and were detained by the police for further interrogation.
