The Ambernath police on Saturday evening arrested a 60-year-old man named Narsappa Chalvadi on the charge of raping his stepdaughter since 2011 when she was 10 years of age. According to the police, the victim was also pregnant with the child of the alleged rapist; the child was later adopted by unidentified people.

Even after the victim's marriage, Chalvadi would visit her and tell her to continue with the physical relationship. The girl confided in her husband, who lodged a complaint.

"He would often rape her and the girl and her mother, scared for their life, kept quiet," said senior police inspector R Chavan, Ambernath west police station. Due to this constant sexual violation, the girl also got pregnant and gave birth to a boy. But the child has been adopted by someone else we are searching for him," he said.

When Chalvadi visited the victim at her house, he would demand sex and threatened to release her video clip, which he had recorded while raping her when she was a girl.

After the victim confided in her husband, he approached the police, which charged Chalvadi for rape under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and POCSO (protection of children from sexual offenses act) 2012. Chalvadi has been remanded to police custody till August 24.
