The Wadala Truck Terminal police have arrested a 29-year-old principal (maulana) of a madarssa for allegedly molesting five students, including a 15-year-old minor girl. Another teacher of the madarssa who is also allegedly involved in the case, is at large.

"Acting on a complaint, Abara-Ul-Haq, principal of the madarasa in Bilauli mosque at Shanti Nagar in Wadala, and Irfan, the teacher, have been booked under Sections 354 (outraging the modesty of woman), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of woman) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012." Said Suhas Garud, senior police inspector of Wadala TT police station. He added that Haq was remanded in police custody till March 7 by the holiday court on Sunday and a manhunt has been launched to nab Irfan.

Haq hails from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and he has been working as the principal of the said madarssa for the past two and a half years. He used to live in the madarssa premises.

The police said that the victims in their statements have alleged that Haq used to support Irfan and completely neglect his wrongdoings. The complaint further stsated that Irfan, a few months ago, allegedly asked a 15-year-old girl student to cook food for the teachers. When she was in the kitchen, he allegedly hugged and kissed her.

Haq allegedly neglected Irfan's acts. He often used vulgar language. "At least five girls have complained to us saying Haq would use vulgar language with them," said Garud.

Preliminary, investigations have revealed that the accused have been allegedly molesting the girls since January. Irfan was sacked from the Madarssa around five months ago following similar complaints against him. However, Haq continued abusing girls, Garud said. Although the girls complained to the top authorities of the mosque, they turned a blind eye. They finally approached the police on Saturday.
