With Shirdi Airport set to get busier starting October with connectivity to at least four new cities, the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has said that it will expand the parking capacity at the airport in future when the need arises that currently has a capacity of parking four aircraft at a time.

A MADC official said, "We do have plans to expand the parking capacity at Shirdi airport in future by having additional parking lots. Currently, we have a capacity of parking four aircraft at a time which is enough. But with airport getting busier, the demand may increase."

The official added, "We have the provision of land for additional parking lots inside the airport itself that is on the side by the current parking lot. After the expansion around 10 aircraft will be able to park at a time."

According to MADC officials, charter aircraft that come daily do not require parking for more than 2 or 3 hours, and also the services from Mumbai and Hyderabad return back before sunset considering there is no night landing facility at Shirdi Airport yet.

The parking charges at Shirdi Airport is currently around Rs 1,100 for one hour which is at par to its neighbouring airports at Aurangabad and Nagpur. The MADC opines that the parking charges will not be increased at the moment citing it does not want to make it non-viable for the aircraft to ply to Shirdi.

Since October 2017, the airport has handled more than 2,000 flights along with handling of more than 50,000 passengers. Suresh Kakani, Managing Director, MADC, said, "Starting October, we will have connectivity to Delhi, Bangalore, Indore and Chennai apart from the current connectivity to Mumbai and Hyderabad."

Meanwhile, daily around three flights of Alliance Air operate to Hyderabad and Mumbai, as of today. Shirdi is located around 250-km away from Mumbai, is a major pilgrimage location wherein around 50,000 pilgrims visit every day. Shirdi airport was constructed at Rs 350 crore of which around Rs 50 crore was contributed by the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust.
