The Bombay High Court on Friday directed railway authorities, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Maharashtra government to conduct fresh inspection for a spot at Sandhurst Road where a foot over bridge (FOB) can be constructed for commuters to cross railway tracks.

A division bench of justice SM Kemkar and justice MS Karnik asked the authorities to conduct a fresh inspection on Saturday after railways informed the court that it would not be possible to build a temporary bridge until the permanent one is constructed.

The bench said: "If you (authorities) want to do something, then you will do it. Where there is a will there is a way." The bench has told authorities to submit a report on July 4.

After the demolition of Hancock bridge in January this year, people have been forced to use the railway tracks to go across from one side to another and this has led to several accidents and the death of a school boy.

Furthermore, the railways had been told to ensure that border walls along the tracks were properly built to avoid illegal railway crossing. The direction was given during the hearing of a petition filed by city resident Kamlakar Shenoy.
