Lokayukta to hear complaint against BMC contracts

The BMC, which has been facing flak for poor quality of roads, had lodged police complaints against the contractors.

The state Lokayukta will be hearing complaints given to it against contracts awarded to firms by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The complaint will be heard at 12.45pm, said officials from the office of ML Tahaliyani, the Lokayukta.

The complaints have been filed by Anil Galgali and Pravin Chheda, leader of Opposition in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, said officials from the Lokayukta's office.

The BMC, which has been facing flak for poor quality of roads, had lodged police complaints against the contractors.

Galgali, in his complaint letter to the Lokayukta, stated that the BMC on one hand lodged first information reports against some contractors and on the other gave out of way contracts to those firms. The complaint went on to allege that two firms were being allowed to take contracts in the Goregaon-Mulund Link road project. Chheda's office stated that his complaint was with respect to scams in road contracts awarded by the BMC that lead to poor road quality.
