Pointing to flaws in the present rules which have led to just 5% societies in the state getting deemed conveyance, BJP MLA from Malabar Hill Mangalprabhat Lodha sought that a fresh policy in this regard be framed.
Deemed conveyance refers to the title of the property being transferred from the builder to the housing society.
Speaking on Wednesday in the state legislative assembly's winter session in Nagpur, Lodha pointed out that the previous Congress-NCP-led state government had come forth with a deemed conveyance law and publicised it. This led to thousands of housing societies across Maharashtra flocking to government offices to get the deemed conveyance. However, Lodha claimed, barely 5% of the societies had received it.
He added that the issue covered five departments and the municipal corporations. "A new policy regarding deemed conveyance must be framed," he said.
