The Nariman Point Churchgate Citizens Association (NPCCA) has raised concerns about an increasing number of vagrants on the South Mumbai footpaths. Residents claimed that despite informing the civic body and police several times, their requests have fallen on deaf ears.

Morning walkers are affected the most with filth strewn around the footpaths as local residents have to deal with regular brawls till late nights. "The vagrants indulge in drug abuse, and late night brawls, and petty thefts, which should be curbed," said a Marine Drive resident.

Swarn Kohli, President of NPCCA, said, "We have complained to the civic body and police department several times but we have not got any relief as vagrants come back on the streets and create nuisance. We need a permanent solution to these issue."

"Footpaths are not meant to build homes and sleep but is used to walk for pedestrians. There is an urgent need for the government authorities to act against these people which have become a major nuisance in the locality", said Atul Kumar, Vice President, NPCCA.
