Residents from Bandra, Khar and Juhu have decided to file a writ petition in the Bombay High Court against the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) demanding the DN Nagar-Bandra-Mandale Metro-2B corridor made underground instead of the currently planned elevated.

Residents have cited that an elevated Metro corridor over the major arterial SV Road will lead to traffic congestion and the elevated Metro corridor would also close all doors for the future expansion of Metro.

However, the MMRDA has been contending that the underground Metro corridor is not feasible because it is more costly.

In a public meeting conducted on Sunday, residents decided that they will now take the legal route to compel the government to go underground for Metro-2B.

Social worker and film-maker, Ashok Pandit, who also attended the meeting, said, "We are going to approach the High Court and are already in the process of preparing our petition. We are also going to write to the prime minister's office (PMO) about how the state government and the MMRDA are going against the wishes of the residents."

Actress Raveena Tandon also attended the meeting on Sunday. Later, Tandon took Twitter, saying, "When all protests fall on deaf ears. When the state ignores its citizens.A cause that unites all. The betterment of our city. United. Please A humble request to retweet. Mumbaikers, we need to make an effort so our voice is heard! (sic)"

The residents have been demanding the Metro-2B made underground since several years now and had also proposed that alternate plans to the same. A proposal has been drafted by the residents suggesting that Metro- 2B line be converted to an underground corridor from Santacruz to Bandra, to replace the elevated line planned from D.N. Nagar to Bandra.

The proposal also suggested that the Metro-2B is connected to the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 underground corridor at Airport or at Mahim, in order to have better integration of the two lines.

The Metro-2B DN Nagar-Mandale corridor is 23.5-km-long and the DN Nagar-Mandale Metro corridor is a part of the Metro 2 (Dahisar-Charkop—Bandra-Mandale), which was earlier planned underground but was later turned into an elevated corridor. The line was also divided into two parts namely Dahisar-DN Nagar Metro-2A, DN Nagar-Mandale Metro-2B.
