Local hawala trader robbed of Rs 75 lakh and four mobile phones

A local hawala trader was allegedly robbed and beaten in his own office at Dhobi Talao near Azad Maidan on Tuesday evening by six unidentified men. The robbers managed to steal cash Rs 75 lakh and four mobile phones worth nearly Rs 40,000. At the time of the incident, the victim was accompanied by three of his associates.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1, Manoj Kumar Sharma, "At around 7 pm complainant, Mahesh Thanvi, a local hawala trader was busy with his daily routine work and was accompanied by three associates Santosh Chaudhuri, Amit Ansari and Ashutosh Upadhyay. While six unidentified robbers who were equipped with two pistols and knives entered their office. They then attacked Thanvi and his associates and robbed cash Rs 75 lakh and four mobile phones. All four of them were later taken to GT Hospital."

"We have registered a case against six unidentified men. However, it will be difficult to identify the robbers as the office is not under CCTV surveillance. The six of them have been booked under sections 395 (Punishment for dacoity), 397, (Robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 342 (Punishment for wrongful confinement), of the Indian Penal Code," said Sharma.
