Nitin Gadkari has refuted rumours that he is the probable CM candidate for Maharashtra. In a media interaction, he said, "I am happy in Delhi, whoever is chosen as CM,we will give them all our support."  According to reports, around 40 BJP MLAS had landed up at Gadkari's house to persuade him to take up Chief Ministers post after the party won with a major margin in the assembly elections.

Sudhir Mungantiwar, a former chief of Maharashtra BJP has said that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari who hails from Nagpur should be appointed as Chief Minister of the state where BJP emerged as the major party in the polling  held on October 15.

Around 40 MLAs on Tuesday have gathered at residence of Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur and are requesting him to return in the state politics as Chief Minister of Maharashtra as reported by various publications.

The report further adds that Home Minister Rajnath Singh and JP Nadda were likely to visit the state as observers to discuss all the aspects of government formation in the state. However, on Tuesday, the Home Minister clarified that he will be visiting the state after Diwali.

After winning the elections, BJP is not in a hurry to form the government and wants the former ally Shiv Sena to offer full support without any conditions. Before elections, it was Devendra Fadnavis who was the frontrunner from BJP for the candidate's post.

In an earlier interview, Nitin Gadkari had said that he is happy in New Delhi which had put a full stop on all such speculations indicating him as next CM of the state. But again, on Tuesday, Mungantiwar who is known as a close aide of Gadkari, said, “We all have urged Nitin Gadkari to return to Maharashtra as Chief Minister.”

In addition to this, supporters of Gadkari in RSS and the party have started spreading an SMS which contains a message in support of the Union leader.

In Maharashtra, no party got clear majority to form government, however, the BJP emerged as the major party with 123 seats, 22 seats away from the magic number.BJP politicians head to Nitin Gadkari's house, persuade him to become Maharashtra CM

Keeping all its options open for government formation in Maharashtra, BJP on Tuesday indicated that it is in no hurry to decide on whose support it would take while making it clear that it will not blink first in the battle of nerves with estranged ally Shiv Sena. Ahead of government formation, Union Minister and former BJP chief Nitin Gadkari today met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at the latter's residence and spent about half an hour with him to discuss the party's strategy ahead.

All the major political parties in the state have gone into a huddle to explore ways for government formation, but the picture is still nebulous with speculation rife about whether it will be an NCP-propped BJP ministry or a coalition regime of the BJP with Shiv Sena.

According to reports, BJP will form the government on its own. Talks with 15 independent candidates are on and the BJP is in no mood to negotiate with the Shiv Sena. The BJP has already secured the support of the seven independents and three legislators of Virar strongman Hitendra Thakur's Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA).

A BJP leader claimed that Sena's demand for half the ministries, based on the 1995 formula, was not possible. "In 1995, we had 65 seats while the Sena had 73 MLAs," he pointed out. The BJP now has 122 seats plus one from ally Rashtriya Samaj Paksha (RSP), while the Shiv Sena has just 63. The state has 43 ministerial berths and we will have to allocate them in proportion to the number of MLAs each party has," the BJP leader said. So, Sena will get 14 berths.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh will travel to Mumbai after Diwali to meet the newly elected BJP MLAs and decide on the leadership issue and government formation in Maharashtra. "I am not going today. I think I will visit Mumbai after Deepawali," he told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Delhi.

The BJP has won 122 seats, and are just 23 short of majority. The Shiv Sena has won 63 seats, the Congress 42 seats, the NCP, 41 seats, and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) just one seat. The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) has won three seats, marking a surprising entry into Maharashtra politics.

NCP's support offer to BJP is to shield corrupt leaders, says Uddhav Thackeray

Hitting out at NCP's decision to extend outside support to the BJP in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena today charged that the offer made by the Sharad Pawar-led outfit is to ensure that its "scam-tainted" leaders enjoy full protection. "Until yesterday, BJP was a communal force and was mocked to be a party full of half pant wearing individuals by the NCP. They insulted Hindutva by mocking the Sangh's diktat of wearing half pants. Are they now really concerned about providing stability to Maharashtra? They only want to ensure that their corruption is not brought out in front of people," the Sena said in an editorial in its mouthpiece 'Saamana'.

No clear mandate, still people blowing victory trumpets: Uddhav Thackeray
A day after BJP emerged as the single largest party in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena today took a swipe at Narendra Modi, saying the "wave" seen during the campaign lost its force even before reaching the shores and expressed doubts over survival of the state amid a hung House.

"Break up of the Sena-BJP alliance and division of votes due to four and five-cornered fights in all seats benefited BJP as well as Congress-NCP. The Sena-BJP split benefited Congress-NCP. Given the Lok Sabha results, both these parties could not have won more than 25 seats together," an editorial in today's issue of Sena's mouthpiece Saamana said.
