The sessions court, presided over by AS Shende, on Friday, sentenced a 29-year-old man arrested by Mankhurd police for raping his 50-year-old mother to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 500.
The court mainly relied on the firm testimony of the victim, who had cried a number of times while deposing and narrating the incident before the court. She said when the accused committed the dastardly act, she was staying with her husband and children of the accused. On Aug 5, 2013 when she was sleeping at her residence the accused entered it at midnight. Suddenly she realised someone was touching her inappropriately and was shocked to see her own son committing the act. When she tried to raise an alarm, he threatened her with dire consequences and raped her.
After he left the place, she narrated the incident to her husband and they approached the nearby police station. The police were initially reluctant to believe something like that had actually occurred. However, a lady constable checked her and told her senior about it.
Public prosecutor Kalpana Hire told the court that the accused had been arrested a number of times under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act.
