While the fight for their rights continue among the LGBT community, Humsafar Trust — an organisation that has struggled to ensure that these rights see the light of day — hosted its 22nd anniversary on Saturday.

The trust organised a three-hour-long ceremony with over 600 people from the community, along with several competitions and performances, on the occasion. Speaking to dna, Vivek Anand, CEO, Humsafar Trust, said: "We're hosting competitions for 'Mr and Ms Manager', body building, best costume and a few others. Besides that, we're also holding a few Bollywood and Lavni dance performances."

Anand added: "When we started, we were merely three people. Now, we're 600. We've come a long way. The acceptance that we got back then is way less than what we get now. People are aware and supportive, at least a little. Even if we're not legally accepted, we're still hoping that we get that acceptance as well."

He also said: "We're a gay organisation and we're proud that we have come so far. It just gives us more strength and hope to work towards our cause."
