Partha Vidhani, a slow learner from KC college, scored 68% in the commerce stream in his HSC exams held in March. Vidhani was initially denied a writer by the Mumbai divisional board, which cited its rule saying that writers were not permitted for slow learners. Vidhani finally got a writer after interim relief from the Bombay high court and later from the Supreme Court. The next hearing in his case is slated for July 7.

Vidhani completed his Standard X from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) board. The NIOS board had allowed him to avail the services of a writer during his Standard X board exams, which helped him to pass. But when he took admissions in a state board junior college, he was not aware that he would not be allowed a writer for his HSC board examination.

Sheetal Vidhani, mother of Partha, said, "We came to know that he won't be allowed a writer only ten days before his board exams started. He needed a writer because his handwriting is not legible. We immediately filed a petition in Bombay high court, which gave him interim relief by instructing the board to give him a writer. We are thankful to all the people who helped us. There should be a standard rule across the country for such students."

Later, when the plea got rejected in HC after the Mumbai divisional board's representation that there was no rule that allowed writers for slow learners, the family approached the Supreme Court that finally allowed Partha to get a writer for all his exams.

Having passed his HSC boards, a relieved Partha is planning to do a diploma course in baking and culinary arts.
