Indian tennis ace Leander Paes filed a police complaint on Thursday alleging that a friend of his estranged living partner Rhea Pillai had threatened to kill him and his eight-year-old daughter.

According to the complaint Paes filed with the BKC police, cricketer Atul Sharma made the threat on Tuesday at around 11.30 am in the Bandra family court premises, where the hearing of the custody case of Paes and Pillai's daughter was going on.

A case has been registered under sections 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code by the BKC police. Kundlik Nigade, senior officer of BKC police station, said, "We have not made any arrests. We will be examining CCTV evidence, eyewitness accounts, etc. Investigations are on." Paes had allegedly produced some papers to prove that Pillai and Sharma were in a relationship, which allegedly led Sharma to react.

Paes, 40, had approached the police in May with a criminal complaint against Pillai, 48, alleging that she was an irresponsible parent who was causing harm to their eight-year-old daughter. The complaint also alleged that Pillai would forcibly take their daughter out of the country.

The tennis player had also alleged that Pillai was cheating on him and having an affair with Sharma. The duo, who lived in Bandra since 2005, had a child in 2006. Following the complaint filed by Paes, Pillai filed a complaint of domestic violence against him in a local metropolitan magistrate court. She had alleged that Paes had locked both her and her daughter out of their residence. Both are currently fighting for the custody of the child.
