Criticising the Opposition without naming it, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said that when it is not possible to counter politics of development, they resort to raising caste issues. Gadkari was speaking at the launch of a book, Man on Mission Maharashtra, based on the various development works done by the Devendra Fadnavis government so far.

Journalist Ashish Chandorkar has written the book after visiting more than 25 districts and going through various projects of the government. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Husain and ministers from the Fadnavis government were present at the dais. Noted writer Dr Sadanand More presided over the function.

Praising Fadnavis for various initiatives including Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan, Gadkari said that one can ascertain the development in Maharashtra going by the number of tankers required in the state in the past ten years. He said that Fadnavis is known for character, corruption-free and transparent governance and that is the reason history would have to take note of Fadnavis, stating that this success story is not individual but a result of collective efforts of his government.

Fadnavis said, "I never felt that I would become chief minister of the state. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi made me chief minister of the state, he told me that Maharashtra has attained a reputation of being a state of middlemen and brokers. It needs to be changed to bring back the glory of the state which is due as per its stature and that is what my government is trying through all these initiatives."

The chief minister continued, "I learnt to take decisions from Gadkariji and when you are sure that a decision is for the larger public interest, no matter what you can take it and implement it. That is how I have gone forward and despite many hurdles we are overcoming those."
