Lalita Salve, the constable from Beed, underwent a few medical check-ups on Wednesday, May 23, and is likely to undergo sex reassignment surgery this week. According to her relative, the medical staff is taking care of her and further steps for the surgery is going on.
While Salve's case is considered to be special and was admitted to St George's Hospital, a state-run hospital, sources from the hospital states special permissions are getting cleared for the case from higher authority.
Speaking about the test she underwent on Wednesday, Arjun Ujgare, uncle of Lalita, said, "She underwent few medical tests - ECG. Blood test, x-ray to name a few. A team of doctors is set up for the surgery. We don't have a clear idea of the cost of the surgery we need to pay."
He added that they are asking generous people to donate some money for the surgery. He said, "Around 15 to 20 thousand has been crowd-funded by the locals in Beed and gave her the money as a help to undergo the surgery. We will surely need more money."
She has been admitted to the nursing staff of the hospital. Precautionary measures in legal terms are getting clear before the surgery and most likely she will undergo the surgery this week.
One of the medical officials from the hospital, said, "Since it is a special case, we are taking permissions from DMER authority. During the doctors strike period, we were avoiding new admissions. While she came during the strike period, we had to take a special permission from the higher authority, Dean of the hospital to admit her."
Dr Rajat Kapoor, who has treated her for over a year, was not available to comment.
